501st MidSouth Garrison

On Saturday Oct 10th, Pottery Barn had their second annual “release party” of Star Wars items. As many of you know, our purpose for being there was to raise money for St. Judes. The event was from 10:00 – 12:00. Don, Raychel and I arrived at 8:30 to square things away with Patti (my event contact), and then things started rolling.

To say the folks at PB were great to us is an understatement. They made sure we were comfortable with fans and food. Since this was their second time doing this event, they were pretty sqaured away with the crowd control, which help things move smoothly. Skip helped them with some suggestions to aid in the line moving a little faster with autographs, and once that was done, it was smooth sailing.

There were a couple of things that stuck out to me as really cool about this event:
1. All the kids had really cool OT old school shirts. I don’t know where they got them, but we saw a TON of kids and the shirts rocked!
2. Everyone was a fan…even all the PB folks were excited, which was awesome.
3. The staff at PB made us lunch, and Sara’s tomato soup was awesome…and I don’t care for tomato soup.

I want to thank everyone that participated in the event from the MSG and the Rebel Legion:

Skip – Vader
Don – Luke Skywalker Rebel Pilot
Raychel – Padme
Glenn – Obi-one
Matt – Chewie
JW – Sandtrooper
Chris – R2

On Saturday 3 October 2009 The Tennessee Titans in conjunction with Comcast and The Cartoon Network held their annual ’Titans All Pro Dad Day’. All Pro Dad is an innovative program designed to equip men with the moral and educational tools necessary to make them better fathers and role models, and to build character in their children and communities.

Preliminary estimates were that over 400 families attended the event. Of note, Comcast and the Cartoon Network informed us that we were the first market this season to have 501st and Rebel Legions members in attendance.
The event was from 2:00-5:00pm and we arrived around 1:00pm. The Mid-South Garrison and Corellian Base were out in full force to support this great cause. The weather was beautiful in the upper 70’s with clear skies and the field was in great condition. There was a constant breeze that kept the clones cool and the jedi cloaks billowing.

The Cartoon Network had a large backdrop featuring characters from the Clone Wars cartoon series and a green screen for photographs. We also conducted patrols of the sports field that resulted in a ‘touchdown’ of smiles and picture taking. Thanks to everyone who attended and made this an awesome event!

Troopers and costumes:
Todd, Clone
Skip, Snow Clone
Jonathan, Clone
Don, Clone
Bob, Jedi
Glenn, Obi-Wan Kenobi
Raychel, Padme

MidSouth Garrison at AdventureCon 2009

On June 12-1, 2009 the Midsouth Garrison gathered for the annual AdventureCon troop in Knoxville Tennessee. We raised $585 for the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. It was a great time seeing all the smiling faces and the large amount of people that attended.
